Progression Timeline

Many people progress through a sequence of learning and professional stages. The route that is right for you depends on your current level, experience and goals. Progression is discussed individually and is not automatic.

  1. Level 3 BSL
  2. Level 4 / Pre-Level 6

  4. Professional Interpreter Training
  5. Professional Registration Pathway

Completing a stage does not guarantee acceptance onto a later programme or professional registration. Suitability and next steps are discussed with the team.

Two broad routes are outlined below. During consultation we will help you understand which direction may suit your current BSL level and professional aims.

Pathway option 1

Supported Development Pathway

  • Begins at Level 3 BSL
  • Progresses through Level 4, Level 6 and professional interpreter training
  • Intended as a structured multi-year route
  • Includes mentoring, supervision, career guidance and professional support
  • Opportunities for shadowing and work experience can be discussed with the team

Pathway option 2

Accelerated Development Pathway

  • Designed for learners entering with Level 6 BSL
  • Progresses into professional interpreter training
  • Includes mentoring, supervision and professional-development support
  • Opportunities for shadowing and work experience can be discussed with the team
