This workshop delves into the concept of the Dunning–Kruger Effect (DKE). Participants will explore how cognitive biases operate and engage with theoretical frameworks to understand DKE in depth.
The workshop will illustrate what DKE looks like and explore its varied impacts—not only on individual BSL interpreters, but also on the people who use interpreting services and on the wider interpreting profession.
Strategies for mitigation will then be discussed, equipping attendees with actionable insights to navigate these challenges. The session will conclude with reflections and practical takeaways, fostering a deeper awareness of how to counteract these biases in professional practice.
